Helping more Donors with our “Indoor Home Pickup Program”
For many years our ReStore product donors have been asking us to develop a program that would offer indoor home pick up that would take large items that they couldn’t get into their garage or basement. Our wonderful donors indicated they would contribute a small donation for that service.
This past fall Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga rolled out a pilot Indoor Home Pickup program for your home furniture, appliances, home decor, windows, and doors among other items.
Before this new program Habitat was making visits to homes in a very limited capacity. We could only take items placed in the garage marked for our pick up. This hindered us from getting great donations from those who might not have been able to get a heavy appliance or furniture down the stairs by themselves. Additionally, because we didn’t charge anything to pick up donations, our program was unable to grow without costing our organization more money.
As an organization we love finding new ways of serving more families by transitioning your new or used items into valuable dollars for the community and helping more people into their first affordable home. Today, lead by our InDoor Home Ambassadors, we will pick up, dissemble and take away almost anything you have. On top of helping families, our new program also helps to reduce landfill waste.
Habitat Halton-Mississauga is now equipped to come into multi-storey homes and condominiums, take your old fridge, bed frame, desk, or other furniture and sell it at one of our three ReStore locations where we promote Reuse, Recycle, and Re-think. We couldn’t be happier with how the program is running to-date.
Don’t forget that we still offer free pick up from your garage or driveway. We will continue to be one of the only non-profit organizations still offering free pick up services.

Yes, there are some nominal costs to running the program, but thanks to our donors, they have ensured that we can cover them and grow our home and renovating build program for our communities in which we serve.
