The Store That Builds Homes
A Habitat for Humanity ReStore is our non-profit thrift store that accepts donations of overstocked, used, discontinued items and salvageable building materials donated from manufacturers, other stores, local contractors and the public. The ReStore sells your donated items to the public at a reduced cost, typically 30-70% percent less than the original retail value. Items that are donated to us include new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, cabinetry, sinks, countertops, household and décor items, lighting and much more.Read More
The ReStore is an amazing place to find used furniture, antiques, appliances, knick-knacks, paintings, home décor, antiques, doors and any home furnishing you can think of. Every visit to the ReStore is different, and every purchase helps support our home building projects in our community.
The first Habitat ReStore in Canada was established in 1991 in Winnipeg. Habitat Halton-Mississauga currently operates three ReStore locations. Our Burlington location was ranked #1 in sales in 2017 and our Mississauga location is currently the largest ReStore location in the province.
To our customers, our ReStores operate just like any other thrift store, like Value Village, Goodwill, The Salvation Army, Furniture Bank, etc. However, there are some key differences. Every dollar raised in our ReStore goes towards our administrative fees, allowing us to use 100% of our donations to build more desperately needed affordable homes in our community. We are the only thrift store that sells live-edge furniture created in our ReVive Centre, we are also largely a volunteer-run organization. The people processing donations, loading trucks and assisting in the warehouse are volunteers. This keeps our costs down, ensuring that we spend our money on what really matters: homes for deserving families and individuals that need a hand up.
Charities, like any other organization, incur administrative fees. The ReStore profits help to cover these costs. As a result, the money raised by the affiliate through conventional means - such as through individual and corporate giving - go directly towards local builds and provide more families in the community with decent and affordable housing. The ReStore is also a great way to go green and is very environmentally conscious. Most of the customer returns, end-of-stock and gently used items we take in as donations and re-sell would otherwise end up in a landfill.
It’s so easy to donate to our ReStores! We accept donation drop-offs at all three of our ReStore locations. We accept donations from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, excluding holidays. You can also call our Call Centre (905 637-4446 ext. 427) or fill out our online form to schedule a free donation pickup at your home. Donations valued over $100 are eligible for a tax receipt. Leave us your name, mailing address and email so you can receive yours!
Our ReStores are largely a volunteer operation, and only through our volunteer’s generous donation of time and effort we are able to achieve all we can in our community. You can sign up for your first shift in 30 minutes or less by visiting our Volunteer website here.
