What is the ReVive Centre?

The ReVive Centre is Habitat HM's exclusive upcycling centre used to help recycle and transform donated products and materials that would otherwise go to landfill. Items that are in need of renewing, up-cycling or refinishing are ‘revived’ and transformed into something that can be sold by Habitat. The facility includes a workshop, a DIY space and a Kids Build room. As the very first of its kind, the ReVive Centre is an innovative new idea that helps the ReStore raise funds to support Habitat's mission to build safe, decent and affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families in need.

Participants from volunteers and corporate teams to individuals and kids all have the opportunity to learn some incredible new skills and are able to flex their creative muscles in either our Workshop, our DIY space or Kids Build room.

Whether you're an expert on the tools, an artist or a beginner who has been inspired by Pinterest, the ReVive Centre has a project waiting for you!

How does the ReVive Centre support Habitat & the ReStore?

The Habitat for Humanity Halton Mississauga ReStore is a warehouse that accepts donations of overstocked, gently used, discontinued items and salvageable building materials donated from manufacturers, other stores, local contractors and the public. Items that are donated include new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, cabinetry, sinks, countertops, household and décor items, lighting and much more. The ReStore then sells those donated items to the public at a reduced cost, typically 30-70% percent less than the original retail value. The money raised from the sale of these items covers all of our administrative costs (water, electricity, etc.) and allows us to purchase land to build safe, decent and affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families in need of a place to live.

The ReVive Centre helps support the ReStore and Habitat in a unique way. As a green initiative, the centre helps us breathe new life into items donated to the ReStore. This allows us to be able to take more donations from our community and divert additional waste from landfill. It also provides additional opportunities for volunteers to build and create in a controlled environment.

The Revive Centre is a great space for corporations or organizations to team build and create new items for us to sell in the stores. The monetary donation required for teams to participate in that program then also goes to Habitat and helps us build more homes in our community.

The ReVive Centre: A GREEN initiative

At Habitat, we're all about looking at new and innovative ways to improve how we build, reduce our waste and the amount of product going to landfill. This ultimately helps us serve more hard-working, low-income families in need of a safe and affordable place to live. From those initiatives, the ReVive Centre was born. Not only do we upcycle and give new life to furniture and items we might otherwise have had to throw away, but we also use materials sourced locally, like raw edge hardwood, to create new and unique items. Using recycled lumber helps us capture carbon and reduce the carbon footprint.
