Turning Overstock Product Into Homes For Families In Need: Habitat Is Seeking Corporate Donations For Local ReStore

Do you know of a corporation or business who is looking to do something good in our community? Are they looking for a way to contribute to a worthwhile cause in a way that also benefits their brand? Are they struggling to find a solution for overstock items that are taking up valuable space in their warehouse? Don’t worry, Habitat Halton-Mississauga is here to help! Every year, the ReStore (a social enterprise run by Habitat for Humanity and their team of volunteers) receives thousands of donations of products and goods from all types of corporations in our community. These donations are then sold at Habitat’s ReStore location to raise money to build affordable homes for local families in need of a safe place to live. Donating to Habitat is a win-win situation for our community and local businesses. It’s also an easy way to make a difference in the lives of local families who are struggling to put food on the table and a roof over their heads. Items that are taking up valuable warehouse space, such as product that may have been mis-packaged, damaged, returned, discontinued, are end-of-line or considered overstock can all be donated to the ReStore in exchange for a charitable tax receipt.

Donating is quick and easy - all corporations have to do is pick up the phone and call 289-208-5608 or email cdigiovanni@habitathm.ca. Habitat Halton-Mississauga’s Procurement Manager, Charles Digiovanni, will walk them through the process and make donating to the ReStores a breeze. Items can also be dropped off at local ReStore locations in Mississauga (4500 Dixie Road), Milton (25 Brown Street) or Burlington (1800 Appleby Line).

Ready to make a donation of product to the ReStore? After talking to Charles, you can choose to either:

 

Schedule a donation pickup

Members of our team will come to your place of business, load your items on our truck, and take them back to the ReStore where they will raise funds to help build Habitat homes. Yes, it's that easy!

 

Drop your donation off at one of our three ReStore locations

Our three ReStore locations are easy to get to and equipped with loading bays to receive your donations. Just make sure you give us a heads up and we'll have our team ready to help unload.

 

WHAT WE ACCEPT

 

Furniture:

  • leather sofas and chairs (Must be presented as new, smoke-free, stain free, wear and tear free
  • cabinets, dining sets, tables and chairs
  • desks less than 48" wide and office chairs (10 years old or newer)
  • bedroom furniture (no mattresses)
  • bars and bar rails
  • closet organizer cabinets (solid cabinets only and accessories)
  • accents, wallpaper and accessories
  • fountains and art

 

Appliances (all must be in working condition and not older than 7 years):

  • washer and dryers (electric dryers only)
  • ranges, fridges, dishwashers, microwaves and range hoods
  • small appliances

 

Bathroom items:

  • sinks (drop-in ceramic only, pedestal and vase)
  • faucets and bath accessories
  • bathtubs (claw foot tubs or acrylic/fibreglass tubs that present as new)
  • tub surrounds and doors
  • new shower doors and stalls

 

Cabinetry and countertops:

  • cabinets (kitchen and bathroom in good condition)
  • counter tops (granite, man-made, stone, marble, laminate (without cut holes for sinks)

 

Building materials:

  • newer spruce, pressure treated and cedar lumber
  • siding, wood, brick and stone
  • plywood, drywall, OSB full and offcuts (minimum half sheet 4’x4’)
  • insulation, vapor barrier and ridged insulation (new only)
  • concrete and cements (new only)
  • bricks and concrete blocks (new only)
  • shingles and roofing paper (new only)

 

Flooring:

  • hardwood (finished and unfinished and minimum 100 sq ft)
  • laminate and foam under padding (minimum 100 sq ft)
  • ceramic and porcelain tiles (minimum 100 sq ft and new only)
  • grouts, mortars, scratch and lath (new only)
  • tools and tile cutters
  • carpet (new only – minimum 40 sq ft)

 

Hardware:

  • door hinges, knobs, ball catches and bumpers
  • deck and fence hardware
  • nuts and bolts (packaged)
  • nails and screws (packaged)
  • entrance and interior door handles and grip sets
  • kick plates and door closers

 

 

Heating and ventilation:

  • furnace filters (new only)
  • large air purifiers (attached to furnace and must be fairly new)
  • registers and cold air returns
  • fireplaces: wood burning and electric
  • stove pipes
  • furnace humidifiers (new only)
  • air conditioners: central, wall, window and portable

 

Lighting and electrical:

  • interior lamps
  • ceiling mounts
  • wall mounts
  • exterior patio, deck and wall

 

Millwork and mantels:

  • moldings and trim
  • railing, risers, treads, and spindles
  • interior and exterior columns
  • decorative fireplace mantels

 

Plumbing:

  • kitchen and bathroom faucets
  • copper pipe and fittings
  • ABS and PVC pipe and fittings (unused)
  • drainage pipe and fittings (unused)
  • faucet, bath and toilet repair parts (unused)

 

Windows and doors:

  • exterior doors and sidelights: steel, wood and fiberglass
  • interior: french, panel, sliding and pivot doors
  • windows: standard, bay, bow in wood, PVC, aluminum and fiberglass (less than 10 years old)
  • exterior shutters (good condition)
  • skylights (new only)

 

Tools:

  • hand tools such as screwdrivers, levels, saws, tape measures and planes
  • portable power tools (good condition)
  • stationary tools (good condition)

 

Outdoor:

  • urns and pots
  • natural stone
  • interlock pavers, patio stones and retaining wall
  • patio furniture

Get A Charitable Tax Receipt For Your Donation

 

Donations to the ReStore that are valued over $100 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. When you schedule to have your Corporate Product Donation picked up or you drop it off at one of our three ReStore locations, make sure you indicate that you would like to receive a tax receipt for your donation and we'll email it to you.
