The Store That Builds Homes
A Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a retail store concept that accepts donations of overstocked, used, discontinued items and salvageable building materials donated from manufacturers, other stores, local contractors and the public. Items that are donated include new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, cabinetry, sinks, countertops, household and décor items, lighting and much more. The ReStore then sells those donated items to the public at a reduced cost, typically 30-70% percent less than the original retail value.
Get Creative At The ReVive Centre
The ReVive Centre is Habitat HM's exclusive upcycling centre used to help recycle and transform donated products and materials that would otherwise go to landfill. Items that are in need of renewing, up-cycling or refinishing are ‘revived’ and transformed into something that can be sold by Habitat. The facility includes a workshop, a DIY space and a Kids Build room. As the very first of its kind, the ReVive Centre is an innovative new idea that helps the ReStore raise funds to support Habitat's mission to build safe, decent and affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families in need.
Our Visionary Partners
"The team building was something that we got out of the process that we weren’t expecting. We created lasting memories our employees will never forget.” - Arethea Harris, National Marketing & Communications See All of our partners
Kids Build Program
As part of our new ReVive Centre, our Kids Build program combines a learning experience with a hands-on activity for elementary aged children. Kids will learn valuable creative and problem solving and skills in a mini-workshop designed just for them! During our camp programs, workshops, birthday parties or school field trips, kids will have a fun, engaging Habitat experience and take their unique creations home with them.
Become a Habitat Hope Builder
One of the biggest things we depend on as a nonprofit is consistency. When we have consistent donations that we can rely on every month, our work in our communities can continue as scheduled. This means our homes will be completed on time and on budget, and that our families will be able to move into their safe and affordable homes to escape the cycle of poverty that inadequate shelter brings. When you sign up to our Hope Builders Program, your monthly donation ensures that we can help the greatest amount of families in the shortest amount of time. Your recurring donation will help us complete our 2018 build projects in Burlington (18 units) and Mississauga (up to 8 units).
Become a Volunteer
Everyone has the ability to change lives of families in need of a home. Help us build a better future in our community. Every volunteer contributes towards building a world where everyone has a safe, healthy place to live. At Habitat, our goal is to give more hard working families a "hand up" - the opportunity to create new memories in a place that they can finally call "home". A place that's warm, a place that's safe, a place where they don't have to make the choice between money for rent or money for groceries.
Inspire Your Co-workers With Team Building
An effective team building event can challenge and motivate your team to achieve great things. Habitat’s Build Day program is the ultimate corporate team building experience in the GTA. A Build Day is a full day of building on one of our build sites or in our new ReVive Centre facility for you and your team that includes swinging a hammer/swiping a paintbrush, lunch, an album of photos on Facebook and a t-shirt that you can take with you as a memento of your build day. Not only will you build something greater than yourself, you’ll also challenge yourself and your team physically and emotionally to work for a change.
Participate In A Brush With Kindness
The ultimate feel-good experience for teams of 100 or more! Brush With Kindness is a unique program where large organizations can participate in a one day outreach event to help revitalize, transform and beautify a community or home in need. Landscaping, painting, small repairs - a Brush With Kindness experience is a one-day event that brings participants together in an unforgettable day of giving back as a community.
Host One Of Our Community Donation Bins
We are so excited to announce a brand new and innovative project – the first of its kind for Habitat for Humanity: A Pop-Up Donation Bin Collection Program! For the first time in our affiliate’s history, we can bring the ReStore to you. This program is our way of making our ReStore program accessible to those that live far away from our three locations in Milton, Mississauga and Burlington. Donations to our pop-up centres will be used just like other donations to Habitat. The pop-up donation bins are modified sea containers, eight feet high, eight feet wide and 20 feet long. They are brightly coloured, professionally branded and include a Habitat staff member/volunteer who will be on location to manage the container and handle donations. We’ll set up on your property for free and will make it a priority to ensure that hosting us on your property is a hassle-free experience.
Donate Wearables To One Of Our Clothing Drop-off Bins
Habitat HM has accepted donations of gently used furniture and other household items for quite some time, but our new Clothing Drop-Off Bins, located at our three ReStores, will now be accepting donations of clothing and other wearables. This new program does not mean that our ReStores are going to start selling clothes, although we are open to the idea, but rather that we are collecting the clothes on behalf of a third-party organization that pays us a fee for every bin we fill. The money the clothes raise will go directly towards building more homes for families and individuals in the community.
Travel Abroad With Our Global Village Program
Habitat for Humanity may work around the corner from you, but we also work across Canada and around the world. Through Habitat’s Global Village volunteer trips, you can volunteer with us in more than 40 nations. Our trips offer more than just the opportunity to swing a hammer. You’ll experience the country like a local, with the locals. Meet people from around the world with all different kinds of backgrounds, races and religions.
Partner With Our Build Factory - Coming Soon!
On April 4th, 2018, the Ontario Government reinforced its commitment to affordable housing by announcing an innovative approach to partnering with local community-based initiatives led by Habitat for Humanity. To create increased supply and meet the growing demand for safe and affordable homes in the province, the Ontario Government pledged a three-year, $5.8 Million investment in building scale and capacity through Habitat for Humanity. The Build Factory, which will be located in Burlington, will be used to construct and assemble homes year-round in a controlled environment. This facility will engage with local community partners including educational institutions, and other not for profit organizations. Components for safe, decent and affordable homes will be assembled and transported to as many as 120 Habitat for Humanity construction sites across Ontario, with the opportunity to also provide housing for Indigenous communities.
