Welcome volunteers!

We'd like to introduce you to our new monthly donation program, the Hope Builders Program!

One of the biggest things we depend on as a nonprofit is consistency. When we have consistent donations that we can rely on every month, our work in our communities can continue as scheduled. This means our homes will be completed on time and on budget, and that our families will be able to move into their safe and affordable homes to escape the cycle of poverty that inadequate shelter brings.

The Hope Builders Program is our new monthly donation program that will span across our affiliate to help support our current and upcoming builds.

Together, we can change the lives of 26 families this year!

With the support of volunteers like you, we’ve built 40 homes in the past 19 years for hard-working, low-income families in need. But with the cost of rent and real-estate rising, more families in our community are forced to choose between feeding their families or keeping a roof over their heads.

With the waiting list for regional affordable housing at an all-time high, families often wait more than 10 years to be placed in a home that is geared to their income.

We’re seeing more and more parents and individuals in our community are working two or three jobs just to afford unsafe or unsanitary living conditions.

This is where we can help...

When donors sign up to our Hope Builders Program, their monthly donation ensures that we can help the greatest amount of families in the shortest amount of time. Their recurring donation will help us complete our 2018 build projects in Burlington (18 units) and Mississauga (up to 8 units) on time and on budget.

Together, we can change the lives of more than 26 families this year by building them a safe, healthy and affordable place to live.

We guarante

100% of every dollar Hope Builders give goes right into home building. That's right - no administration costs, just building. That means they can make a real impact in the life of 26 families in need in 2018.

What is the Hope Builders Program?
The Hope Builders Program is our new monthly donation program that will span across our affiliate to help support our current and upcoming builds.

Why are we launching the Hope Builders Program?
One of the biggest things we depend on as a nonprofit is consistency. When we have consistent donations that we can rely on every month, our work in our communities can continue as scheduled. This means our homes will be completed on time and on budget, and that our families will be able to move into their safe and affordable homes and escape the cycle of poverty that inadequate shelter brings.

How does the Hope Builders Program work?
When donors decide to give a hassle-free, recurring monthly donation online through our website, they will be joining our Hope Builder family and helping to directly contribute every month toward changing the lives of more than 26 local families in our community.

What about donors who already give recurring monthly donations?
Don’t worry, all existing monthly donors will be rolled into the program as well. We will be reaching out to each donor individually to let them know what they can expect.

How do donors sign-up to become a Hope Builder?
To become a Hope Builder with Habitat, all a potential donor needs to do is visit our website page (habitathm.ca/buildhope) and sign up to give a recurring monthly donation using their credit card. The process is easy to follow and takes less than 3 minutes. Alternatively, if donors prefer to donate via post-dated cheques, there will also be a downloadable PDF form that donors can print off, fill in and mail to our office with their cheques.

What information do donors need to provide to become a Hope Builder?
As with any donation, the donor will need to provide us with their full name, mailing address and credit card information. Additionally, they can choose to provide us with their birth date to receive a special message on their special day.

What do donors who sign up for the Hope Builders Program get in return?
When donors sign up to become a Hope Builder with Habitat HM, they’re signing up for a great program. Not only will they get regular updates about the impact of their donation and exclusive Hope Builder updates, but as we roll out different phases of the program, we will include more perks and exclusive opportunities that only Hope Builders will get to participate in.

Where does our donor’s personal information go when they sign up for our Hope Builders Program?
When a donor gives to Habitat in any respect, whether online or via mail, their personal information is stored in Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga’s private and confidential donor relationship management system. Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga recognizes everyone’s right to privacy and pledges to protect it. We do not sell, trade or rent any personal information to others and access to personal details is strictly limited within our organization. For more information about our privacy policy, visit habitathm.ca/privacy-policy or email sgolan@habitathm.ca.

How do donors increase or decrease the amount they give every month?
That’s easy! We’re here to help everyone with any changes they need to make to their donation at any time. All donors need to do is contact Sarah Golan at sgolan@habitathm.ca and she’ll be able to guide them through the process.

A donor’s credit card number has changed or is about to expire. How do they update their information?
We’re here to help all of our donors with any changes they need to make to their donation at any time. All they need to do is contact Sarah Golan at sgolan@habitathm.ca and she’ll be able to help them make any payment updates to their donation.

When a donor gives to Habitat online, they get their tax receipt emailed to them right away. Will they get a tax receipt for every monthly donation?
Instead of cluttering their inbox with 12 different tax receipts, our monthly donors will receive a tax receipt once per year. This should make claiming their donation for tax purposes a lot easier.

What if a donor decides they would no longer like to give monthly and participate in the program?
We’re here to help all of our donors with any changes or cancellations they need to make. All they need to do is contact Sarah Golan at sgolan@habitathm.ca and she’ll be able to cancel their donation.

Where can potential donors find more information about the Hope Builders Program?
To find more information about the program, you can encourage customers and other potential donors to visit habitathm.ca/buildhope.

What materials will be used to promote the Hope Builders Program?
We will have 6 different handouts to help promote the program and give donors/customers an additional way to support the organization. There will be postcards for handing to anyone who drops off a donation at our back doors, handouts to staple to all receipts at our cash registers, postcards to hand out when drivers are doing a pickup, flyers to attach to our tax receipts, and postcards to hand out to volunteers at our ReVive Centre. We will also have a variety of signs around the store to encourage customers to visit habitathm.ca/buildhope and sign up to the program as well as some online advertising and social media content.

Have a question we haven’t covered here?
Contact Sarah Golan at sgolan@habitathm.ca today. She’ll be able to answer any questions you may have about this program or any of our individual giving programs or processes.

what you need to know

Hey there volunteers! We've created this little section just for you so you can understand exactly what you need to know for your shift. For the next month, we'll be trialing handouts at our cash registers, at our donation drop off doors and on our trucks.

For our cashiers:

For the month of March, we're asking you to help us drive awareness of the Hope Builder Program and encourage customers to give a monthly donation by stapling a flyer to EVERY receipt you give to customers, even if they've already got one. The flyers are the same size as the receipts (3.5"w x 8.5"h) and made of a thin paper that is easy to staple. Sometimes, it takes more than once for customers to read something, so persistence is key.

For our drivers and warehouse volunteers:

Also for the month of March, we're asking you to help us drive awareness of the Hope Builder Program and encourage donors to give a monthly donation as well by giving one of our Hope Builder postcards to EVERY donor you see, even if they've already got one. The postcards are 4"w x 6"h and made of a thicker paper so they won't bend or rip easily.
