Bett-Knowlton Build Project

Our Build Story

On Friday, June 24th, Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga broke ground on our latest build project at 92 Mill Street West in Acton, in support of our friends at Community Living North Halton. The house will be a new place to call home for 4 autistic gentlemen and their care workers who are in need of supportive housing that can accommodate them for their futures.
“We’re very excited to be undertaking such a special new project in Acton,” said Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga CEO, John Gerrard. “We know just how much our friends at Community Living North Halton do for the members of our community who are in need of support and assistance. For us here at Habitat to be able to step in and give them a helping hand so that they can continue to give these gentlemen the care and support they require as they grow older is truly an honor. Every hour of work, every volunteer who steps in to lend a helping hand, every donation made to the project will be changing the lives of these gentlemen and the amazing support workers who care for them for years to come.”

The new build project, that will start in February 2017 and take approximately 12-16 months to complete, will also be named for two of Habitat Halton-Mississauga’s most outstanding and veteran volunteers who have helped build homes for families in need in Acton and throughout Halton for several years. The Bett-Knowlton Build Project, as it is now officially named, will recognize the hard work and dedication of volunteers Charles Bett and Austin Knowlton.

“Our volunteers,” explained Gerrard, “especially volunteers like our friends Charles and Austin, are the ones who have got Habitat to where we are today. Without them, we would never be able to do all that we can to changes the lives and futures of families and individuals in our community or to help other amazing organizations like Community Living North Halton. We’re happy that we have the opportunity to recognize their efforts in such a unique way that will give back so much to our community in their honor.”

Realizing A More Beautiful World With Our Partners At Frontstream

This summer, we welcomed the amazing team from FrontStream (our fundraising platform) up to our build site in Acton to share our story and our amazing new partnership with Community Living North Halton. Now, thanks to the hard work of Taylor, Devin and Kristin, we’re very excited and proud to be the first organization featured in their  #RealizeAMoreBeautifulWorld Campaign – helping their nonprofit partners to tell their stories and showcase their successes through video. Check out the video below to see how we’re helping to raise funds for this project together!

Project Update

Our Bett-Knowlton site in Acton, in partnership with Community Living North Halton, is moving along at break-neck pace. Not only have we finished pouring the basement concrete floor (with some help from our friends at Ignite Digital), but all of our trades are finishing up the plumbing and electrical and we’re moving on the insulation and vapour barrier install. In the next month, we’ll be on to drywall and the interior of the home will take shape.

We’re looking for teams to join us and help get this project across the finish line in January. To inquire about booking a team day, contact  today and check out this awesome video our friends at Ignite Digital did while on site.
